Could the Baltimore Bridge have been saved? YES!
This video shows how the Baltimore Bridge could have been saved. The video also shows that modern bridge code equations would have predicted that the collapse would have happened. Details are given about why the collapse happened and what could have been done to prevent it. A responsibility framework is also presented that can be used to prevent future collapses.

This video uses lab and field data to verify that the air is lost and the important air, the small bubbles seem to return to the concrete before it hardens. This is an important finding and a chance to change current specifications that require air content t...

The content of this video is very rich. Thank you. it really benefited me a lot.
Hi Tyler Do you have videos on the following topics ? 1. Thermal properties of concrete structures 2. The effect of thermal shock on concrete material 3. The durability effect high temperatures have on existing concrete. , does the rise in temperatures are shortening the life of concrete infrastructure ? 4. Is it possible to measure the water flowing through cracks ? 5. Repairing cracks with movement ? Perhaps in elevated slab ?
Just watched this video for my studies. Great video
Reinforcing fibers.. not an admixture, but affects slump
Got it. Remember the crackpots!
Can AASHTO R101 be used in place of ACI 318 and 211?
Any chance of an update to this for current technologies and developments since 2019?
Any suggestion on how to fix a pier which cracked due to efflorescence and how to avoid for future robustness
Excellent video, Tyler. Might be worth pointing out that for metric the stated relationships between the compressive and flexural/shear strengths are only valid for imperial units. As 1 psi = 0.0069MPa, *Flexural strength* 7.5*sqrt(Fc_psi) -> 7.5*sqrt(0.0069*Fc_MPa) = 0.62*sqrt(Fc_MPa). *Shear strength* 4*sqrt(Fc_psi) -> 4*sqrt(0.0069*Fc_MPa) = 0.33*sqrt(Fc_Mpa)
This lesson was impressive!! Equally impressive was how long the lady at the back was able to hold her arms up for
Probably wouldn’t dry pour a driveway or something structural that would need to support a lot of weight, but a pad for my shed? I’m gonna give it a shot If it doesn’t come out super great I don’t really care
Again! The yellow bag is not for dry pour! Use the red bag fast setting quikcrete for dry pour.
Trying to understand what is so hard about adding water to a bag of cement before pouring it. Are these people making dry cakes and pies too?
Great video 👍🏽 How much fiber I would put in a 5sand 1 cement mix Thank u
nice video! concrete tech in alaska.......
I think there would have been a strong case to say we need everyone out of these offices for three months all this if they're working around the clock. At least you're not putting the people in that building at risk. Great video. Really interesting. You tell a story really well,
Professional
Nowdays even rabar is gay.
Why is the rebar/remesh in the middle or upper third of a slab? In a beam the tensile stress is at the bottom, unless its cantilevered, so it seems sensible that the rebar should be in the bottom third of a slab when thinking of the tensile stress being greatest at the bottom surface. Also, consecrators commonly 'cut' the upper third of the slab, wouldn't this cut hit rebar then?
A off question for this video. Who here is a expert on SCC aggregate? I have a question I can't find an answer to.
Hi Tayler, have you made a video talking about concrete exudation? You know, when the water starts to rise. I am a big fan of your videos, they help me understand more about concrete technology where I study in Argentina.
I remember the video you did about epoxy coated rebar and it being banned but I'm still seeing it being used in all type of projects just getting your thoughts on it. Thanks
I'm watching your concrete series of videos , I am learning too , thanks .
This was about as exciting as watching cement cure.
Dear Tyler, you're so great. I wish I was young and you could be my teacher, then I could finish as the God of concrete.🤪
Tyler you are the King of Concrete :))
Your teaching style is amazing, Tyler. After 5 years of graduation, I am refreshing my RCC knowledge. Thanks a lot
Tyler really thank you for your amazing and free information. appreciate

This is amazing information mate. Thank you
@tylerley I'll appreciate if you would please talk ablout strong white concrete mixture and moulding methods for casting outdoor stuffs used in freezing areas, like breeze blocks. Thank you so much in advance. I love your videos. ❤❤❤
I know its been years now since this video was made but FRP rebar is now similarly priced if not even cheaper than steel rebar now. Some of the new FRP rebars are both strong and flexible now as well where they dont fracture as easily and will bend and flex back in place which solves some of the ductile concerns compared to steel.
I agree with you Doctor. I believe economy is the answer why no bridge protection system was updated. In addition, someone "top" in charge didn't know his responsibility. So the problem is Economy+Incompetency
Ahh? Because of bad construction practices and a poorly designed pool deck support! Reference 1400 McKinney Houston Texas, 8th floor parking garage Pool! Proper designed and constructed!

could you make another video to address the changes from aci-318-19? This video has been helping me a lot
can you make an updated video to address the changes per aci-318-19 for shear stirrups requirements?

Thank you very much for making this video. When I see failures like this, I often think that something preventative could have been done, so it's good to hear what, specifically, that thing is, and that an overall template for the engineering exists. What I have to wonder about is the design of the permitting process. When the regulations were being changed, the permitting process should have required all the necessary modifications prior to the permit being granted. This process either was inadequatly designed regarding its primary objective, or it was too easy to subvert.
@TylerLey How're you getting on with the lab tests? New dry pour video coming soon perhaps? 🙏🏼
hi Prof Tyler, Thanks for the video. I have a request, can you please add a video on Acid Sulfate Soils and how to achieve durable concrete, 100y and more
Ppl who say science is boring got it all wrong
How about not allowing local authorities to do the initial permit inspections? Should be professional companies charged with this function (sorry, you kind of said while I was typing it!)
